OCC Greenlights Trump-Backed Crypto Company's Bank Charter Application

Share

A national US bank regulator has conditionally approved a bank charter application linked to President Donald Trump and his family's crypto venture, World Liberty Financial.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted conditional preliminary approval of World Liberty Trust Company's application for a national trust charter in August. This would allow World Liberty to manage and hold assets on behalf of customers nationwide under a single federal charter, and settle payments faster.

World Liberty Financial has ties to Trump allies, the Witkoff family, who are deeply intertwined with the company's leadership. Zach Witkoff, the son of Trump's special diplomatic envoy Steve Witkoff, is the proposed president of World Liberty Trust.
