OCEAN Mining Pool Embroiled in Hashtag Hijack Scandal
The Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN is facing a serious crisis after it admitted to redirecting some users' hashrate to the failed BIP-110 minority chain without clear consent.
The incident lasted for approximately 18 hours, during which affected miners believed they were using non-BIP-110 Stratum templates. Instead, their hardware mined blocks on a separate fork.
OCEAN acknowledged that some miners who selected the non-BIP-110 option may have been directed to the BIP-110 chain.
The controversy has sparked immediate backlash across the Bitcoin mining community, with critics arguing that mining pools should never redirect user computing power toward a competing chain without explicit permission.
