OCEAN Refunds Miners After Configuration Error Leads to 18-Hour BIP-110 Mining

Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN has acknowledged a configuration issue that caused some miners to unknowingly mine on the stalled BIP-110 chain for approximately 18 hours. The issue arose due to a Stratum configuration flaw, which led to some operators being directed to the minority chain instead of the main chain.

OCEAN has stated that it will distribute around 0.3 BTC in direct rebate payments to match the rewards miners would have earned on the main chain during this period.

The incident has sparked debate over how mining pools handle default configurations during contentious network splits, with some critics arguing that default pool settings can steer unassigned hashpower toward minority chains.
