A catastrophic water leak at an Athlon Blockchain LLC-owned Bitcoin mining data center in El Reno, Oklahoma has left thousands without access to basic services. The facility leaked a staggering 3 million gallons of water, prompting school closures and business disruptions.

The city had issued the data center a Stop Work Order in 2023 due to fire and life safety code violations as well as expired building and electrical permits. Despite this, it appears that operations continued without proper oversight or compliance with regulations.

According to local reports, none of the costs associated with the water leak will be passed on to citizens, with the city committed to recovering all expenses from the property owner through legal action.
