Oklo Gets Green Light from DOE for Advanced Nuclear Project
Oklo Inc., developer of advanced nuclear technology, received startup authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Groves Isotope Test Reactor. This approval enables fuel loading, testing, and operations under the Reactor Pilot Program.
The Groves reactor is designed to support domestic isotope production for healthcare, scientific research, industrial applications, space missions, and national security. Oklo financed the project privately and constructed the reactor on privately owned land, demonstrating a repeatable commercial deployment model without relying on an existing national laboratory framework.
The Department of Energy completed a readiness review before granting startup authorization, confirming engineering readiness, operational preparation, personnel training, and compliance with approved safety requirements. This experience will strengthen Oklo's future advanced nuclear project pipeline and support the company's strategy to expand domestic isotope production in the United States.
