OKX Cracks Down on High-Risk Transfers Amid Increased AML Scrutiny
OKX, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has issued a warning to its users regarding potential account bans due to stricter anti-money laundering (AML) reviews. According to OKX CEO Star Xu, the exchange is taking a more aggressive stance on detecting illicit financial activities.
The increased scrutiny focuses on transfers tied to high-risk financing channels, such as Telegram escrow groups and networks like Huione. These channels have been linked to potential money laundering schemes. For instance, Huione processed over $27 billion in transactions before being shut down by the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) in October 2025.
Compliance reviews conducted by OKX can trigger temporary holds on withdrawals and trading operations for up to 15 days or longer. If internal investigations confirm direct links to unlawful operations, user account access is permanently revoked.
