OKX Cracks Down on Suspicious Transactions with Enhanced Anti-Money Laundering Checks

Share

OKX, one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, is cracking down on suspicious transactions by tightening its scrutiny of fund sources. According to a warning from OKX CEO Star Xu, deposits linked to high-risk wallets can trigger enhanced anti-money laundering (AML) checks, which may result in funds and account functions being restricted for 15 days or longer.

Xu explained that AML reviews are not automatic and depend on the specific circumstances. Accounts confirmed to be connected to illegal or high-risk activity may ultimately lose access to OKX services. High-risk deposits can restrict account access, but a flagged transaction does not automatically establish wrongdoing.

The exchange's blockchain screening systems assess whether deposited assets have previously interacted with wallets linked to scams, hacks, sanctions, darknet markets, or other services carrying elevated risk labels. If additional evidence is required about the source of funds, OKX may temporarily restrict withdrawals, access to deposited assets, or other account functions.

The 15-day period for AML reviews is not a fixed minimum or maximum and can vary depending on the complexity of the case. Some cases may be resolved sooner, while more complicated reviews could continue longer.
