OKX Sees Record Inflows as Coldcard Exploit Triggers Centralized Exchange Surge
OKX, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has reported record inflows to its platform following the Coldcard exploit, which compromised over $80 million in Bitcoin. The Coldcard vulnerability, disclosed last week, led to the theft of more than 1,300 BTC from thousands of addresses across multiple waves.
In an interview with The Block, OKX Chief Compliance Officer Jonathan Brockmeier stated that 'we're seeing record levels of inflows now to centralized exchanges post-Coldcard.' This phenomenon is a stark contrast to the FTX collapse last year, which led to widespread adoption of self-custody solutions.
Brockmeier emphasized the importance of balancing user autonomy with security. He noted that OKX supports customers who prefer self-custody but also offers a secure alternative through its full-time global team and AI-powered threat detection.
OKX has made significant strides in preventing customer losses, having prevented $26.3 million in scam-related losses by stopping suspicious transfers during the first half of 2026. The exchange also protected over $1.1 billion in assets belonging to more than half a million customers during the same period.
