OKX's OKB Token Sees Surge in Value After Historic Burn
OKX's decision to burn most of its OKB token supply in August 2025 has left the remaining tokens with limited room for excuses. The exchange set a hard cap at 21 million OKB, drawing comparisons to Bitcoin's capped supply. While the price of OKB has risen significantly since the burn, it still lags behind some predictions.
The initial reaction to the burn was intense, with OKB jumping from around $46 to as high as $142 in a single day. However, the market has been slower to respond to the changed dynamics of the token's supply. The exchange OS launch in May 2026 added another layer to the story, as it enabled developers to deploy spot and perpetual markets without rebuilding the exchange stack.
The real test for OKB will come from its usage within X Layer, where it is used as the only gas token. If the chain sees significant transaction flow, every transaction will touch OKB, making the burn matter. For now, traders are cautious, recognizing that protocol launches do not necessarily translate to durable usage.
