Old Wallets Stir Up Concern as Long-Term Holders Move Thousands of BTC
Recent Bitcoin price movements have been under scrutiny due to unusual activity from long-term holders. Data shared by market analyst Darkfost indicates that wallets holding coins between five and seven years, and seven and ten years, have been moving more Bitcoin than usual.
The movement of over 5,000 BTC caught the attention of traders as old wallets rarely become active. However, these transactions do not necessarily mean a large selloff is imminent. Darkfost explained that the coins are being spent UTXOs, which means they have been moved from one wallet to another without necessarily being sold.
There are two common reasons for this type of movement: security and selling. However, at the moment, the second reason does not appear to fit what is happening. If large holders were selling, more Bitcoin would normally be sent to exchanges before the sale takes place.
The timing has also drawn interest as the movements happened as Bitcoin price tested the $60,000 level again. A similar test earlier this year attracted strong attention from the market. For now, the wallet activity has raised questions but not confirmed that long-term holders are leaving the market.
