A surge of activity in older Bitcoin wallets has caught market attention following the latest BTC rally. According to Galaxy Research, a wallet containing 10 BTC received on June 17, 2011, moved the coins on August 29 after remaining dormant for roughly 15.2 years.

The estimated value of the coins at the time of transfer was about $777,000 and represented a realized gain of approximately 503,364%. This is just one example of an emerging trend where dormant Bitcoin wallets are being activated.

On August 12, Galaxy reported that 85 BTC received in December 2012 had moved after approximately 13.6 years of dormancy. The coins were worth about $5.4 million at the time and carried a gain of roughly 461,981%.
