Oliver Exposes Trump's Crypto Cash Cow

Share

Last Week Tonight host John Oliver targeted Donald Trump's growing crypto business in a scathing segment. The show focused on Trump's dealings with cryptocurrency while he was in office, arguing that he had turned a risky market into a personal payday.

Oliver explained that Trump made over $2.2 billion during his first year back in office, with more than $1.4 billion coming from crypto investments. This made crypto the family's top earner ahead of real estate.

The host also highlighted two specific ventures: the Trump meme coin and World Liberty Financial. He likened meme coins to pump-and-dump schemes, where they spike in value when first introduced and then crash with insiders selling at the peak. The Trumps launched their coins just before Trump's second inauguration, but they later lost most of their value.

Olivier said that Trump made $636 million from these efforts. He also noted that a private dinner was held for the top 220 holders of his meme coin, which gave investors direct access to the White House in exchange for an investment in one of Trump's crypto ventures.
