Olympic Sprinter CJ Ujah Denies Role in Cryptocurrency Scam
British Olympic sprinter CJ Ujah has denied any involvement in an alleged cryptocurrency scam. He and eight others appeared in Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, accused of being part of an organised crime group linked to a sophisticated scheme.
The scam reportedly involved phone calls to multiple victims from people claiming to be police officers and cryptocurrency companies. Victims were tricked into sharing important security details before discovering that funds stored in their wallets had been stolen.
One victim allegedly lost over £300,000 in the scam, which was investigated by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). The investigation led to a series of coordinated search warrants across Kent, Essex, and London on April 29.
CJ Ujah, 32, who competed at the 2016 and 2021 Olympic Games, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defraud. Another defendant, Joseph Umoru, will enter his plea at a later date.
