OnlyFans and Meme Coin Save 64-Year-Old Marmot Study from Funding Cuts
The Solana traders on OnlyFans have come to the rescue of a 64-year-old marmot wildlife study after federal funding was cut off. The project, which began in 1962, tracks the population and behavior of yellow-bellied marmots in Gothic, Colorado.
Funding had been secured through a series of grants from the National Science Foundation over six decades, but the latest request for continued support was declined in late May. Without new funding, the team risked losing an uninterrupted record of over 60 years.
To fill the gap, UCLA professor Daniel Blumstein proposed creating a G-rated OnlyFans account called OnlyMarms. The account features nearly daily field videos and explanations, and has attracted thousands of visitors who can leave tips for photographs and videos of marmot life.
The team also turned to a Solana meme coin, $OnlyMarms, which was launched independently by a group outside the project. The token's creator royalties are directed to the marmot researchers, allowing them to claim fees as donations.
