Ontology Mainnet Block Production Halted Over Potential Security Concern
Ongoing Ontology mainnet block production has been temporarily halted due to a potential security concern discovered during a routine check by core developers. The team identified an issue requiring immediate investigation and stopped block production as a precautionary measure. This pause is considered preventive, not a response to an active attack or confirmed theft.
No user assets have been compromised according to the Ontology Network. 'There is currently no indication of any loss or compromise of user assets,' the team stated in their announcement. ONT, ONG, and other on-chain assets remain unaffected based on the current assessment.
The mainnet will remain unable to produce blocks until the security review has been completed and deemed safe. The duration of this shutdown is undetermined, and Ontology prioritizes a complete examination of the potential risk over speed. Any upgrades found necessary during the investigation would need to be completed before block production resumes.
