Ontology Mainnet Halted Amid Potential Security Concern
Ontology's mainnet experienced an unexpected halt in block production on August 31st. The project's technical team and validators paused the network to investigate a potential security concern, which was identified during a daily security check.
The suspension occurred at 09:09 UTC, with the last recorded block visible through a public node being block 20,770,893, timestamped at 08:24:26 UTC. This gap of approximately five hours and six minutes suggests that production had stopped before the announcement was made.
Ontology assured users that no incident or asset loss had been confirmed, and that its ONT and ONG crypto assets, along with other on-chain assets, remained unaffected.
The project stated that it would not process on-chain transactions while block production remained suspended and that a separate announcement would be made before or when the network resumed. However, no restart timetable was disclosed.
