Ontology Mainnet Halted Over Security Concerns
Ontology's mainnet was halted on August 31 due to a potential security issue that surfaced during a daily check. The team stopped block production at approximately 20,770,893 blocks and began a comprehensive review.
No confirmed security breach or user asset loss has been reported so far, but the precautionary freeze sent shockwaves through the ecosystem, with major Korean exchanges Bithumb and Upbit suspending deposits and withdrawals for ONT, ONG, and MovieBloc (MBL) tokens tied to the Ontology network.
The halt came about a week after Ontology rolled out its MainNet v3.1.2 upgrade on August 21, which aimed to enhance Ethereum compatibility by adding EVM opcodes.
