Ontology Pauses Mainnet Over Malicious Activity Amid Precautionary Upgrade
Ontology, a public blockchain focused on identity and decentralized infrastructure, has paused its mainnet block production due to malicious activity targeting the network. The pause was announced on September 1, with the project stating that user assets were not compromised.
The move is a precautionary measure to allow the team to complete security remediation and upgrade network components before resuming normal operations. The mainnet has been paused since August 31, initially described as an 'emergency pause' prompted by a potential security concern during a routine check.
According to Ontology's update, the malicious activity was identified on September 1, with the team reiterating that there is no indication of any loss or compromise of ONT, ONG, or other on-chain assets. The network will remain temporarily paused until the upgrade and verification work are finished.
The halt affects ONT and ONG holders, validators, and applications built on the Ontology EVM, as well as services relying on the network's identity and reputation layer. Users have been advised to avoid time-sensitive transfers until the network is confirmed to have resumed.
