OP Mainnet Transactions Soar Threefold as Ether.fi's Crypto Card Product Takes Off
OP Mainnet has seen a significant surge in transaction growth, with monthly transactions now three times higher than early 2024 levels. This growth is largely driven by ether.fi's migration of its non-custodial crypto card product to OP Mainnet between February and April 2026, which brought $220 million in total value locked to the network.
The move resulted in 300,000 new accounts being added, with 70,000 Visa debit cards issued, generating around $2 million in daily payment volume. This is a significant milestone for OP Mainnet, demonstrating genuine consumer adoption and not just protocol-to-protocol liquidity flows.
Furthermore, fees have played a crucial role in the network's growth, with average transaction costs on OP Mainnet falling to $0.03 by Q4 2024 due to EIP-4844's blob data availability upgrade. The network has also implemented structural changes, including fault proofs and stake-based transaction ordering.
The success of OP Mainnet is not isolated, as it anchors the OP Stack ecosystem, a shared codebase powering chains like Base, launched by Coinbase in 2023. This collaborative relationship creates a flywheel where more chains mean more funding for Optimism's development.
