OPEC Slashes Oil Demand Growth Forecast by 200,000 Barrels Per Day
OPEC has revised its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026, cutting it by 200,000 barrels per day. The new projection puts expected growth at 580,000 barrels per day, down from an initial estimate of 780,000.
This adjustment suggests a more subdued outlook for oil demand over the next few years. Market participants are interpreting this cut as indicative of a less favorable environment for reaching new all-time highs in crude oil prices.
OPEC's revised forecast is consistent with market pricing, which suggests a decrease in the likelihood of crude oil prices reaching new all-time highs by key dates in 2026. The sub-market for crude oil reaching a new all-time high by September 30 has seen a slight decrease in the probability of a YES outcome, currently priced at 3.5%.
