OPEC+ Unveils Next Phase of Production Boost

OPEC+, a cartel of seven oil-producing nations, has agreed to increase their production by 188,000 barrels per day starting in September. This move marks the next step in the group's gradual unwinding of a massive production cut imposed in November 2023.

The cut, which saw these countries voluntarily reduce their combined output by 2.2 million barrels per day, was implemented to stabilize the global oil market. However, as demand has recovered, OPEC+ has been slowly ramping up production to meet it.

By starting this increase in September, OPEC+ is giving itself flexibility to adjust to changing market conditions. The group emphasized that any increase could be paused or reversed depending on how the market evolves.
