Open USD Stablecoin Launched by Consortium of 140 Companies
Open USD is a US dollar stablecoin announced by Open Standard, a consortium of over 140 companies including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, and Coinbase. It's built as shared payment infrastructure rather than a single-issuer token.
The project differs from other stablecoins in its ownership and economics model. Most large stablecoins are run by one company that mints the coin, holds the reserves, and keeps the interest those reserves generate. Open USD flips this model, returning most revenue generated from reserves to participants who adopt and distribute it.
As of August 2026, OUSD has not launched for public trading and carries no live market price yet. The asset is expected to go live later in the year, with Solana confirmed as one of the launch networks. Once trading does begin, expect early volatility due to thinner liquidity and wider spreads.
