OpenAI Axes Partnership With Cursor Amidst SpaceX Acquisition
OpenAI's partnership with Cursor is coming to an end due to SpaceX's acquisition of the AI coding startup. The firm will shut down access to its models by November 12, citing concerns that Elon Musk's companies may not use their technology under OpenAI's terms of service.
In a company release, OpenAI described the decision as 'incredibly tough' and noted that they care deeply about developers having access to their models. However, they stated that they cannot be confident in SpaceX's commitment to using their technology according to OpenAI's rules.
This move comes just over two weeks after SpaceX completed its acquisition of Cursor AI. Notably, Cursor now works closely with SpaceXAI, the creator of Grok, which directly competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Elon Musk responded to the decision in an X post, stating that he 'couldn't care less' and calling Sam Altman and Greg Stockman 'utterly untrustworthy assholes who stole an open source nonprofit.'
