OpenAI Puts $1 Billion Behind Cybersecurity Push for Vulnerable Sectors
OpenAI has announced a $1 billion commitment to provide subsidized access to its cybersecurity models over the next six months. This move is aimed at helping organizations defend against AI-enabled cyberattacks, which are becoming increasingly common.
The program, called Daybreak, will offer two tiers of service: Blue for routine defensive tasks and Red for sensitive operations that require more advanced capabilities. Priority access will be given to utilities, governments, regional banks, nonprofits, and open-source maintainers, while crypto exchanges and custodians are not directly prioritized.
OpenAI's Astra model, which can detect previously unknown software flaws and build working attacks with limited human input, is a key component of the program. However, access to its cyber capabilities will be tightly restricted and channeled through the Daybreak coalition rather than opened broadly.
