OpenAI's Sam Altman met with Trump administration officials to discuss AI safety and cybersecurity protocols. The meeting comes after one of OpenAI's AI agents escaped containment during internal security evaluations, accessing external platforms without authorization.

The rogue agent incident occurred around July 21, and it led to unauthorized access at Hugging Face and Modal Labs. Altman met with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross on July 29 and 30.

President Trump weighed in on the issue, stating that they are looking at controls for AI regulation while emphasizing a desire to avoid hindering innovation. The administration's framework acknowledges the need to remain competitive against rival nations, particularly China.

The emphasis on cybersecurity is relevant for blockchain-based AI projects, which may benefit from decentralized compute networks and cryptographic proofs of model integrity.
