The OpenClaw team has released version 2.0 of their self-hosted framework, built by 933 contributors including 569 first-timers. This major update was initially planned to be small and focused on simplifying installation and rebuilding the browser app.
However, scope creep took over, and the team ended up touching almost every aspect of the codebase. The result is a massive release that rebuilds the browser app, adds shared multiplayer cloud sessions, moves session storage, and implements features aimed at enterprise buyers.
The update also includes setup improvements, such as guided onboarding across multiple platforms and staged imports for users switching from other agents like Claude or Hermes. Security has been enhanced with request-specific approvals, command permissions, and sandboxing capabilities.
