OpenReserve Secures Preliminary Approval for Blockchain-Based National Bank Charter
OpenReserve has received preliminary approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national bank charter. This development marks a significant step forward in the company's goal to establish a bank that seamlessly connects traditional banking systems with blockchain infrastructure and digital-asset services.
The proposed bank, which would operate 24 hours a day, including on weekends, plans to utilize cryptocurrencies and related technology to facilitate real-time transactions. One of its key features is tokenizing deposits, allowing funds to move and settle in real time on blockchain networks.
OpenReserve has previously secured funding from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), a notable investment that underscores the company's potential for growth and innovation. While this development is a significant milestone, it's worth noting that preliminary approval is not a guarantee of final approval, and the process may still face hurdles before completion.
