OpenSea Takes Second Shot at Dominating Solana's NFT Market
OpenSea has relaunched its Solana NFT trading platform, OS2, following a first attempt in April 2022. The new platform combines NFTs with fungible tokens, cross-chain swaps, portfolio tracking, and perpetual futures. This integration makes Solana the first non-Ethereum Virtual Machine blockchain to receive full NFT trading support on OS2.
The platform initially supported 165 collections but failed to gain traction against Magic Eden (ME) and Tensor (TNSR), which dominated the network's NFT volume. OpenSea is betting that its revamped offerings will attract traders and collectors on Solana, with a focus on tokenized trading cards, games, merchandise, and animated shorts.
Solana's NFT market has seen changes in recent times, with digital collections like Mad Lads still prominent but expanding to new areas. Tokenized trading cards have been the biggest growth driver this year, with Collector Crypt and Phygitals processing over $1.6 billion in volume across more than 130,000 cards.
While OpenSea is not the only marketplace on Solana, it touts a reach spanning over 25 networks and remains one of the most recognizable NFT brands. To be considered an NFT revival, there would need to be an uptick in unique buyers and sustained resale volume.
