Operation Lighthouse Disrupts CSAM Networks with 14,300 Investigative Leads

Operation Lighthouse, a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies and cryptocurrency companies, aimed to disrupt child sexual abuse material (CSAM) networks. The operation generated 14,300 investigative leads after tracing 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses linked to over 100 CSAM platforms, forums, and distribution networks.

Chainalysis identified more than 7,700 suspect accounts across exchanges and payment platforms, including 16 linked to registered sex offenders. Investigators found suspects in 125 countries, making the operation a cross-border effort involving law enforcement agencies from several continents.

The multi-day operation was held at the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance in New York, bringing together investigators, cryptocurrency companies, and nonprofit organizations to examine financial activity connected with CSAM. Participants used blockchain records and information provided by partner organizations to identify suspected activity and develop leads for account-level investigations.

Coinbase stated that Operation Lighthouse demonstrates how blockchain transparency can help companies and investigators convert transaction data into actionable information. Binance Senior Program Manager for Anti-Child Sexual Exploitation Gavin Sather emphasized the importance of cooperation between private companies and public authorities in addressing harmful activity intersecting with illicit finance.
