Optimism Foundation Unlocks Massive Token Supply in Coming Months

The Optimism Foundation is set to release another 343 million OP tokens into circulation between May 2026 and April 2027. This influx of new supply represents about 15% of OP's current circulating supply, which stands at approximately 2.286 billion tokens.

OP's total supply sits at around 4.295 billion tokens, with nearly half still locked or reserved. The vesting schedule for the unlock dates back to the token generation event in May 2022 and extends through 2029.

The next scheduled unlock, set for October 11, 2026, amounts to about 4.47 million OP, which is a tiny fraction of the already-released supply at just 0.21%.
