Optimism Foundation's $49M Airdrop Reversal Sparks Governance Concerns
The Optimism Foundation's plan to reclassify $49.7 million in OP tokens from user airdrop allocations into its Strategic Ecosystem Fund passed by a margin of 61.84% to 38.16%. However, governance observers are scrutinizing the vote due to the pivotal role played by delegate.testinprod-io.eth, which threw 8.486 million OP behind the measure.
The vote was taken with a snapshot date of August 13 at block 155,526,433, and any voting power acquired or delegated after that point did not register. The proposal's approval would reclassify 12.7% of total supply from user airdrop allocations into the Foundation-run fund.
Test in Prod, the governance handle for the Optimism Collective core development team, is fully funded by the Collective and was one of its members on the Optimism Security Council. They argued that confidentiality is inherent to bidding for enterprise business and that Optimism cannot compete without the Strategic Ecosystem Fund.
