Opus 5 Outshines Fable 5 in Performance, Pricing
Claude Opus 5 is now available, boasting impressive performance at half the price of its predecessor, Fable 5. The new model outperforms Fable 5 on most major benchmarks, including Frontier-Bench v0.1 and ARC-AGI-3. Opus 5 scored 43.3% on Frontier-Bench v0.1, surpassing Fable 5's 33.7% and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol's 34.4%. On ARC-AGI-3, it achieved a remarkable 30.2%, while GPT-5.6 Sol scored only 7.8%.
Claude Opus 5 is the default model on Claude Max and the strongest on Claude Pro, effectively replacing Fable 5 as the go-to choice for most subscribers. The new model's performance extends beyond raw scores, with Lovable noting a 22% gain over Opus 4.7 in agentic coding tasks and significantly reduced variance run to run.
Claude Opus 5 is available now via API at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output. A Fast mode running at roughly 2.5 times the default speed is also available, priced at twice the base price, $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output.
