Orionx Winds Down Operations Amid $7M Asset Transfer Allegations
Chilean crypto exchange Orionx has halted customer withdrawals and begun winding down operations after discovering that over $7 million of custodied assets had been transferred to wallets outside its control.
A forensic audit found discrepancies in Orionx's internal records, totaling approximately $6.98 million across various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, and Polygon.
The transfer of assets allegedly occurred between 2018 and 2021, with the majority taking place via a Celsius account maintained by former General Manager Roberto Zibert and an account associated with Orionx's email address.
Orionx has filed a report with Chile's Public Prosecutor's Office and a criminal complaint against its former executives, alleging disloyal administration. However, Zibert and Díaz have denied the allegations, stating they never acted against customers' interests.
