OSL Paves Way for Retail XRP Trading in Hong Kong
OSL has become the first licensed exchange in Hong Kong to open XRP trading to retail investors. Until now, only professional investors holding portfolios of at least $1 million were allowed to buy XRP on regulated platforms in the city.
The OSL platform listed three XRP pairs: two over-the-counter pairs against the US dollar and one against the Hong Kong dollar. The latter is significant because it lets residents buy XRP with local currency without converting to US dollars first or going offshore.
However, HashKey Exchange, the largest licensed platform in Hong Kong, still limits XRP trading to professional investors only. It has been serving retail customers for nearly three years but hasn't opened XRP to them yet. If it does, XRP would reach a larger slice of Hong Kong's licensed retail market.
The new access adds a licensed route into XRP in a major Asian financial center, available in the local currency, on a retail list that runs to a handful of assets. The listing doesn't change much for XRP, but it opens up opportunities for more people to buy it.
