Pakistan Discord Users Fall Victim to Massive MrBeast Impersonation Scam
A massive Discord scam is spreading in Pakistan, targeting thousands of users with fake messages claiming they've won thousands of dollars in free credits on a crypto platform. The scammers impersonate YouTube creator MrBeast, using fabricated screenshots and directing victims to fake websites that pressure them into paying bogus verification fees or VIP upgrade charges.
The scam is particularly dangerous because it often arrives as a direct message from a friend's already-compromised account, making users more likely to trust the message. The attackers use malware to compromise their accounts through separate means, such as cracked software, pirated applications, game cheats, or fake 'verification' downloads.
The malware extracts saved browser passwords, autofill data, and authentication cookies, allowing attackers to resume an already-authenticated Discord session without needing the victim's password. This makes two-factor authentication useless in preventing the scam.
