PayPal Crypto Losses Masked by Strong Core Payment Growth
PayPal's Q2 2026 financial report revealed an $81 million net loss from its cryptocurrency investments, despite strong growth in core payment services. The company's strategic investments and crypto assets held resulted in a paper loss of $81 million over the three-month period.
This trend has continued for six months, with another $74 million lost in the same segment during Q1 2026. However, management is downplaying the significance of these losses, stating that the crypto portfolio is fully isolated and does not affect current operating expenses.
PayPal's core payment services delivered a strong surge, exceeding market expectations. Revenue reached $8.68 billion, adjusted earnings per share were $1.38, and total payment volume was $486.45 billion.
