PayPal Doubles Down on Stablecoins as Q2 Earnings Soar
PayPal's second-quarter results revealed a 10% year-over-year increase in total payment volume to $486.4 billion. This growth is reflected in its reorganization, which has created a separate division for crypto under the Payment Services & Crypto umbrella.
The company listed stablecoins as one of three areas it is expanding into, alongside agentic commerce and identity and biometrics. Stablecoins have become increasingly popular, with PYUSD's supply sitting at $2.8 billion in mid-July, down from over $4 billion in March. PayPal has said that the stablecoin reaches 70 markets.
The company also reported a net loss of $81 million on strategic investments and crypto assets held for investment, which is expected to have a positive impact of about $0.14 per share on its full-year 2025 GAAP earnings.
