PayPal Posts $81M Crypto Loss as Core Business Beats Estimates
PayPal reported an $81 million loss in its cryptocurrency segment for Q2 2025, marking the second consecutive quarter of losses. The company's core business, however, continued to outperform analyst expectations.
Total revenue for the quarter reached $8.68 billion, surpassing estimates of approximately $8.5 billion. Net income came in at $1.104 billion, driven by increased payment-related revenue from Venmo and the PYUSD stablecoin.
The growth of PYUSD, a U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin issued on Ethereum and Solana blockchains, contributed to higher payment processing fees. This helped offset the drag from the crypto trading segment, which is accounted for separately from operating expenses.
