PayPal Unveils PYUSDx Infrastructure for Branded Stablecoins
PayPal has introduced PYUSDx as an infrastructure for companies to build branded stablecoins on top of its existing PYUSD asset, according to a recent LinkedIn post from KuCoin. This marks a strategic shift where PayPal is focused on owning the underlying stablecoin infrastructure rather than solely promoting direct holdings of PYUSD.
The post highlights that several projects, including Saturn, Concrete, and Cap, are already live and have collectively processed more than $100M in volume.
This move may increase fragmentation in the stablecoin market while deepening reliance on a common technological and liquidity backbone. This could benefit infrastructure providers such as PayPal if adoption grows, and may create new listing, trading, and yield opportunities for exchanges and service platforms that integrate PYUSD-linked assets.
