Peirce Stays Bullish on Clarity for Crypto Regulation Amid Congressional Push
Outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce remains optimistic about the potential passage of the CLARITY Act, which aims to simplify regulation in the digital asset market by defining agency jurisdiction.
Speaking on the 'Policy Protocol' podcast by CoinDesk, Peirce expressed her confidence that Congress will pass the bill, stating 'I'm still optimistic that the bill will get finished.'
The legislation seeks to clarify which agencies oversee different parts of the digital asset market, particularly in relation to cryptocurrency spot markets and platforms trading both securities and non-security digital assets.
Peirce noted that mixed-asset trading platforms would be an area where the CLARITY Act would provide significant help, as questions remain about the SEC's authority over non-security portions of trades.
In her final days at the SEC before joining academia, Peirce urged cryptocurrency builders to focus on developing products that offer genuine value rather than getting bogged down in regulatory ambiguity.
