$PENSION Snipe Exposes Crypto Influencer's Dubious Reputation
A mysterious Twitter account called @pensionusdt gained a reputation for being one of crypto's top traders, claiming a $49 million win streak on Hyperliquid and touting its ability to call the bottom on various coins. However, this reputation was shattered when it emerged that the account had orchestrated a coordinated snipe of a meme coin called $PENSION, netting approximately $140,000 in profit.
The sniping pattern, documented by Bubblemaps, involved four wallets buying 60% of the token's supply and immediately selling, followed by over 80 additional wallets piling in to take advantage of the brief spike. The timing mechanism itself suggested that these wallets were positioned to buy before any real follower of pension-usdt had a chance to place an order.
What makes this particularly egregious is that pension-usdt's influence was built on an unverified track record, with many followers trusting the numbers without independently verifying them. The account's silence after the launch collapsed raised even more questions, and some in the crypto community have begun to suspect that the persona may be built on someone else's on-chain activity.
The story took a new turn when pension-usdt posted about its $106 million ETH short being fully liquidated, resulting in a $23.9 million loss. However, this only served to highlight the larger issue of how easily an unverified track record can become the foundation for real financial influence in crypto.
