Peptide Market Sees $32M Crypto Surge Amid Regulatory Risks
The peptide market has seen significant growth in recent times, with gray-market vendors receiving $32 million in cryptocurrency during the first quarter of 2026. This represents a 700% increase from the same period last year.
According to Chainalysis, this trend is attracting first-time crypto buyers who may not have previously used digital assets for transactions. Zach, a marketing director, purchased 20 vials of retatrutide, an experimental weight-loss peptide being developed by Eli Lilly & Co., using Bitcoin.
The vendor required Bitcoin as payment due to the legal and regulatory risks associated with selling unapproved compounds. Banks and card networks often reject these merchants, leading some vendors to accept only cryptocurrency.
Experts warn that many products in this market lack reliable human safety and effectiveness data. Sara Graham from Chainalysis noted that the market is attracting first-time crypto buyers with no darknet market history.
