Perplexity Brings Local AI Processing to Windows PCs with NVIDIA GeForce RTX
Perplexity has launched its Portable Computer feature on Windows PCs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs, allowing everyday users to run agentic AI tasks locally. This rollout marks a significant expansion of the company's local-agent strategy, which was previously limited to NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and Linux-based RTX machines.
The Portable Computer tool uses a model called Qwen 3.8 27B, which has been optimized for NVIDIA RTX hardware. It can handle multistep tasks without sending sensitive data off-device, and users can escalate complex requests to cloud-based models with their permission.
The system blends local and cloud processing, giving users direct control over when their data leaves the device. Perplexity emphasizes the importance of keeping data on the user's own hardware, especially for handling sensitive information like financial records or proprietary business data.
