Phantom Ditches Sui Support, Exposing Wallet Interface Power

Phantom's decision to drop Sui from its wallet interface is set to take effect on September 24. This move marks the end of a partnership that was announced in January 2025, which allowed users to send, receive and manage Sui assets, swap SUI, and connect to applications such as Suilend, Navi, Aftermath, and Bluefin.

The decision demonstrates the power wallet interfaces hold over user funds. Although a wallet provider cannot erase a user's coins, it can remove the screen, transaction tools, and app connections that make it easy for users to access a chain.

Users who want to continue accessing their Sui assets will need to migrate them to another compatible wallet, such as Slush. This process involves handling high-value recovery phrases, which creates a security risk if not done carefully.
