Pi Network Activates Protocol 27 Amid User Base Limitations
The Pi Network has activated Protocol 27 on its mainnet, marking a significant upgrade to its infrastructure. The new protocol includes smart contract authentication, an automated market maker DEX, and RPC server infrastructure. However, despite these upgrades, the network's user base remains limited, with only 16.6 million users having completed migration, representing just 27.6% of the claimed 60 million Pioneers.
The AMM DEX has been running on testnet since early 2026 but has never processed a mainnet transaction, and the network's trading volume is low at $7.85 million per day, making it difficult for the DEX to generate liquidity. The token unlock schedule also creates constant sell pressure of approximately $637,000 daily.
Pi's price has fallen 96.7% from its all-time high of $2.99 and currently trades at $0.098. The community's response to the price collapse has been varied, with some attributing it to a lack of DeFi adoption and others hoping that Protocol 27 will catalyze growth.
