Pi Network Testnet Smart Contracts Launch Ahead of Mainnet Transition

The Pi Network has made significant progress with the launch of smart contracts on its testnet. The feature allows for automatic releases of funds from escrow to hosts, following a predefined set of rules. This marks an important step towards the network's planned mainnet transition.

Community members have been tracking the visible onchain activity, which includes two specific functions: server_auto_release and release_booking_escrow. These contracts are tied to BNPi, a booking application built on the Pi Network. The escrow functionality is part of Protocol 27, an upgrade aimed at expanding the network's smart contract capabilities.

The mainnet launch is targeted for September 15, 2026. In preparation, users have been upgrading their interfaces and infrastructure, including an interface update to the Pi Network's decentralized exchange and automated market maker features on the testnet.

Despite this progress, the Pi token has struggled in recent times, with a price of around $0.09178 as of August 28, 2026. This is down slightly over the past week but up 2% over the past 24 hours.
