Pill Warns Energy Price Volatility Could Last Until 2027
Bank of England Chief Economist Huw Pill has issued a warning about persistent energy price volatility, which could last until 2027 and squeeze Bitcoin miners. The UK's inflation rate may exceed 6% by early 2027 if oil prices remain above $100 per barrel through much of 2028.
This would be roughly triple the Bank of England's 2% target, forcing central bankers to keep monetary policy tighter for longer. Pill has called for a 'prompt but modest' rate hike to counteract price pressures stemming from the Iran conflict.
Crypto miners are particularly vulnerable to energy price volatility, as their profitability relies heavily on the spread between power costs and the market price of Bitcoin. Even modest sustained increases in energy prices can turn a profitable operation into a money pit.
