Pirated 'The Odyssey' Movies Spread Crypto-Stealing Malware

Share

A new wave of pirated movie downloads is spreading malware that targets cryptocurrency wallets. The malicious files, disguised as high-definition WEBRip and Blu-ray rips, have been circulating online since the release of 'The Odyssey' film.

Security firm Bitdefender discovered that these fake downloads contain Lumma Stealer, an information-stealing malware that looks for sensitive data such as browser passwords, payment details, autofill data, remote desktop credentials, and crypto wallets. It also lifts authentication cookies, which can lead to account losses even with multi-factor authentication enabled.

Bitdefender noted that the campaign mirrors a similar one in 2025 where fake 'Mission: Impossible, The Final Reckoning' files hid the same malware. The firm advises users to stick to legitimate streaming services and never run executables advertised as videos, as these can be disguised Windows executables.
