Tadej Pogacar dominated the mountain stage of the Tour de France, creating distance from several competitors and solidifying his position in the general classification group. His efforts seemed focused on benefiting teammate Isaac Del Toro, who remains in contention.

Juan Ayuso attempted to bridge the gap back to the lead group but struggled to maintain pace, trailing by approximately 15 seconds at about 61.5 kilometers to go. Richard Carapaz, known for his penchant for attacking, made a bold move and was soon joined by Matthew Riccitello, Sepp Kuss, and Jai Hindley.

Ayuso had been vocal about his struggles throughout the race and his frustrations boiled over as he appeared to clash with his support vehicle during a climb. However, he eventually accepted support from his team in a moment of necessity.
