Pokémon Twitter Account Hacked to Promote Memecoin
The official Pokémon Twitter account was briefly taken over by a hacker last night, posting a cryptic message about a new 'memecoin' called $POKEMON.
The tweet claimed that this new cryptocurrency would celebrate 30 years of Pokémon in 'a whole new way,' but it's clear that the post was unauthorized and not approved by The Pokémon Company.
A statement from the company confirmed that their Twitter account had been compromised for around half an hour, during which time the hacker posted about the memecoin. The posts have since been removed, and the account is secure again.
This incident is just the latest in a series of cases where hackers have used popular gaming franchises to promote their own cryptocurrency schemes.
